Q: What exercises can I do outside the weight room to improve my jumping ability?
A: Locate an object that’s slightly out of your reach. It can be anything from a basketball hoop to a street sign to a large doorframe. Every time you walk by, jump and attempt to touch it with your hand. Continue doing so once or twice a day until you make contact.
This simple exercise lets you put into practice the power output you’ve developed through Squats, plyometrics and other traditional weight-room exercises. (Check out this vertical jump workout.)
Once you touch your initial target, find a taller one and continue your daily routine. Make it specific to your sport; for example, basketball players can start by touching the net, progress to the bottom of the backboard and work their way toward the rim.
